Thanks for the Memories!! Let's do it again!

This whole elementary blog idea started in 2000 when a few RHS classmates' emails spread like wildfire. This blog consists mostly of conversations regarding our 40th reunion and, of course, memories from our elementary days. As we approach our 45th reunion, please share your comments, memories and wishes on our RHS Class of '70 Facebook page. Let's start with...
Are you interested in reuniting with your elementary classmates again in 2015?

So... how do I blog????

Please add a comment to any of these conversations! Look over our selection of blogs in the right menu, including those within past months. When you are feeling inspired, simply type a mesage in the "Post a Comment" text box. Underneath the comment box, open the "comment as" menu and select "name/url" (unless you have a listed profile). Type your name; you may leave the url blank. You may choose to be anonymous or include your name within the text as well. Select "Preview" if you would like to see what your comment will look like before it is published. You may choose to delete a message after it is published but it will leave a message stating "comment removed by blogger". Come on...You know you want to join us!

Whatever happened to...?

  5. Karen Gabler. Funny you should mention her. The Gablers actually ended up being family friends. And the Gablers (mom&dad but not Karen) even made it to my brother's wedding about 15 years later. The last I knew they had settled in the Chicago area. I don't believe she ever married. She had a sister Debbie who was one year behind us.

  6. The address I have for Stan Brown is in Montclair and for John Millar, Omaha, NE. We mailed them postcards, but haven't heard back from them. They were my buddies and used to follow me around! Bob, maybe if you sent them a letter, they would consider coming to the reunion. They should come! I remember they were really nice guys.

  7. We haven't found any addresses for the Thompson triplets, although Bobby might be on Classmates, I have a note that he is. I haven't figured out how to contact people through that site without Classmates imposing a "joining fee". Does anyone know anything about that?

  8. Barbara Tompkins (Melnick) might live in Massachusetts. We haven't heard from her yet.

I think Tina Bacalakis is on Facebook, as Tina Adams. I sent her a note through Facebook, but she hasn't responded. Either it's not her or I must have pissed her off back in high school. She and I used to sing together lots.

  9. Send me the addresses for John and Stand and I'll be happy to send them letters. BTW, what about Dave Smith. It might be easier to get Stan & Dave vs.just Stan to come. And we would want Dave anyway, right Judy?

  10. Heeere's David!...
    Dear Bob,
What a treat to get your letter. I am interested to coming to the reunion in October whether Stan Brown is interested or not. I'll send Irene a note. My family hadn't been in Tennessee until after we graduated from RHS. In fact when my dad got a job here we looked up Tennessee in the encyclopedia. But since my family moved the summer after graduation I lost touch with just about every one in Ridgewood. Stan is a notable exception whom I've seen every couple of years or so. I've no idea how you found me. Hopefully not on the post office wall or collection agency. I think I'm safe from the law and solvent. Thinking of being in the Willard class of '64 is too funny. Judy's blog sounded like a bunch of kids.

I'd always missed not having any contact with Ridgewood friends after high school, but figured that the four wind blew everyone around the world. I guess that may be so, but the world is smaller now. I'l get back with you one of these days with more of an update, but I wanted to thank you for your letter.

    Dave Smith

  11. (from email dated 1/12/10) What ABOUT Michael and Chris Bumstead?? (I think that's the twins' last name).

  12. Peggy Figlar responds: Oh Judy........their last name was Beaustead or Bowstead you goof.. You're thinking of the Blondie comics. That was perfect, I can't believe you did that after we talked about them. Bumstead. It wasn't Chris, it was Michael and Timmy? or Tommy? I can't remember the other one's name. Does anyone remember them? Wasn't there another boy named Jay Something? Don't forget Roberta Walker, Angela DiFranco, Bozzie Parsons, Jerry Buis, Judy Hall, and how bout WREN ROGERS!! When did she disappear? Kent Scroggs, Keith Spence, Susan Schaffner, Alison McLean, Kathy Voight. I guess the list goes on and on. And yes Judy, Gilbert 5-6837. It would be neat to go into Willard again. I bet it's nothing like we remember. Those neat windows you had to move up and down with the stick with a hook on it. Tritex paste and those cool crayons in the tin box. I may actually still have one of those boxes. There have to be more boys. Bruce Reinhart? Scotty Reinauer, Stan Brown, Johnny Poor. Wow, what about Joanne Strickland. Does anyone remember her?

  13. Bumstead... Bowstead. Almost as bad as Schoneman!!!!

    Sorry, Michael/Chris/Tommy/Timmy!

  14. Rick Bowe clarifies: For chrissake, Michael and Tom Boustead. (We have their street addresses but not emails)

Kathy Vought is alive and well and signed up to come to the reunion.

  15. Irene Nagy Talerico recalls: The Bowsteads were childhood playmates of mine...they lived about 3 houses down. Does anyone remember Mikie Largent? They moved away in elementary school, but he lived next to the Bowsteads, I think.

Figlar, what an amazing memory you have! I do remember all those people. Here's another one...Jerry Coleman, and his famous Yankees dad. And let's not forget about Jimmy Green!

  16. Rick Bowe adds: A follow up to Jerry Coleman, jr and senior. Senior is an accomplished guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Coleman). They moved to San Diego before we entered high school. I have no stories about Jerry jr, but I do know that Jerry’s older sister, Diane (RHS ’68) is married to the brother of my dad’s lady friend. Yeah, go figure that one out.

  17. Bob Marlow replies: Peggy Figlar asked, does anyone remember Joanne Strickland. I do -- she and her younger brother, with whom I was friends, lived three doors away.

The information that is being brought to the surface by this blog is astounding. Who KNEW that this stuff was still in our heads!
